Fiery crash kills 2 at Niagara Falls’ Rainbow border bridge

The origin of the Rainbow Bridge vehicle explosion on Wednesday remains shrouded in mystery, prompting investigators to explore the possibility of a mechanical failure as the cause.

Niagara Falls Mayor Robert Restaino informed The New York Times that the older-model Bentley the couple was driving might have encountered a mechanical glitch, leading to a sudden acceleration as it approached the border checkpoint.

Dramatic footage captured the vehicle accelerating, hitting a curb on the US side of the border, becoming airborne, and then erupting in flames, resulting in the tragic demise of the two occupants.

Initial concerns of a terrorist attack were dispelled by New York Governor Kathy Hochul and FBI officials, asserting that there was "no sign of terrorist activity."

Smoke rises from Niagara Falls, two people are killed in a car explosion.

Contrary to speculations, law enforcement sources disclosed to CNN that the victims were a local New York couple, unnamed, who had plans to attend a KISS concert in Canada on Wednesday night.

With the concert canceled, they visited the Seneca Niagara Resort and Casino before embarking on the ill-fated journey toward the US-Canada border crossing.
